The ‘Best Visitor Attraction' award forms part of the prestigious STAR Awards that have become an important annual event for the local tourism industry. These awards are an important initiative through which the Malta Tourism Authority is able to give public recognition to the best people and products in the tourism sector. During the last years we have awarded a number of different tourism products ranging from the ‘Most Attractive Public Garden' to the ‘Best Feast Stall'. For more information click here.Since 2008, the MTA felt a need to start awarding attractions that offer the best experience to visitors. A set of criteria was established based on international quality schemes and was fine-tuned following a pilot study in a number of local attractions. The criteria are used during unannounced visits to participating attractions and the site obtaining the highest score will be awarded the title of ‘Best Visitor Attraction'. How to Participate This scheme is applicable to all those who own or operate a museum, heritage site or place of interest. Participation is through the application form below and is free of charge. Best Visitor Attraction 2009The selection for the Best Visitor Attraction was carried out by a team of assessors, made up of people from the Institute of Tourism Studies, the Malta Union of Tourist Guides and the MTA. The award went to The Limestone Heritage, Siggiewi, with the prize being a certificate, a star-shaped glass trophy and €800 cash prize. The runners-up for this award were: Palazzo Falson, Mdina and Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar; each runner-up received a certificate and a cash prize of €150.
