28/09/2018 18:00 - 23:59
SCIENCE IN THE CITY 2018

Science in the City is Malta’s national science and arts festival which will be held in Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage site and this year's European City of Culture. On the night (28 September—European Researchers’ Night), the city will be transformed by science-inspired art installations, exhibitions, music, dance, theatre, children’s shows, live experiments, talks, tech areas, and much more. Among the many activities, this year’s highlights will be the Science Fair, STEAM Squared, Digital Area, Pushing the Mouse, Reframing Carbon, Get Your Act Together and more. This memorable night will provide a platform for citizens to engage with scientists and their research. It will also involve some of Malta’s leading artists and entertainers, including Malcolm and Angele Galea, Lala Nomada, Daniela Brill, Michael Bachhofer, Simone Ellul and Lizzie Eldridge, to name a few.

For 2018, Science in the City is working with Valletta 2018 Foundation to feature new installations such as a ‘Pushing The Mouse’, a giant computer mouse that will be pushed around the Triton Fountain by visitors and high tech enlarged augmented reality installation, and the transformation of St. Geoge's Square to showcase artwork inspired by Malta's heritage. The 2018 edition will also include games, shadow puppetry, science theatre, and music. To mark the European Year of Cultural Heritage and Valletta’s European Capital of Culture celebrations, the theme for this year will be “Science is Culture”, which aims to highlight how science shapes all aspects of culture, from communication to the different art forms, health, food, and of course, technology.
