Soprano Dorothy Baldacchino will feature in a sacred music concert at St. Augustine Monastery at Old Bakery Street, Valletta on Tuesday 16th April 2019 at noon. She will be accompanied by Maria-Elena Farrugia and Albert George Storace will present the programme.

In Meditations, Dorothy Baldacchino will be singing profound and inspiring Baroque sacred arias by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Pergolesi. The programme features excerpts from Bach’s Magnificat in D Major, and St. Matthew’s Passion, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and How beautiful are the feet, an excerpt from Handel’s Messiah. Moreover, the programme includes Ave Maria by Schubert and Caccini, Faure’s Requiem and Durante’s Vergin Tutto Amore.

Dorothy Baldacchino's soprano has a pure, agile crystal quality which makes her instrument perfectly suited for works by Baroque, Classical as well as 20th Century composers. She is an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music, having passed with Distinction in 2018 for her ARSM Singing Diploma. Dorothy read a BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies at the University of Malta, with Distinction for her dissertation tracing the pedagogical approaches for the actor-singer-musician in opera.  Aside from giving frequent vocal recitals, her stage portfolio includes premiering original works as an actor with Aleateia Theatre Group (as Lilly in “Drowning Lillies”, Malta & Edinburgh), as well as Artistic Assistant Director for Teatru Astra (Gozo) staging of Verdi’s Macbeth, Rigoletto, La Traviata and Puccini’s Turandot, and Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette for the Teatro Coccia, Novarra Italy. Her most recent stage appearance as an actor-singer was for the premiere Teatru Malta’s Maltese Operetta, composed by Alexander Vella Gregory and penned by Trevor Zahra, “Il-Madonna tiegħek aħjar minn tiegħi” last December.

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy a free visit to the interesting chambers of the monastery of St. Augustine in Old Bakery Street, Valletta, after the concert. Proceeds from the event will go to the restoration project of the Augustinian Monastery. Tickets, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins.
