Much of the countryside is dotted with the world&#8217;s<\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmalta.com\/en\/prehistory\"><strong><u><span lang=\"TR\">oldest free-standing structures<\/span><\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"TR\">, so a stroll could prove to be most interesting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"TR\">The first rains after the long, hot summer brings the landscape to life with<\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">an astonishing variety of<\/span><\/strong><span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maltawildplants.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span lang=\"TR\">wild flowers and plants<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"TR\">. From mid-November until mid-May, the Islands are green and lush with fields full of vegetables and waysides carpeted with fennel, clover, wild iris and myrtle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Lunzjata Valley - Gozo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.visitmalta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/archive-images\/img-13046.jpg\" alt=\"Lunzjata Valley in Gozo\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"5\" align=\"left\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"TR\">The Islands offer walkers some of the most stunning views anywhere in the Mediterranean. The first thing to do is to decide what sort of view you prefer &ndash; dramatic cliffs plunging into waves, the rocky, scrubland of the garrigue or hidden, lush valleys. En route, you&rsquo;ll come across mysterious&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">prehistoric sites<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"TR\">,&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">medieval chapels<\/span><\/strong><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"TR\">and secluded<\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">palaces of the Knights<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"TR\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmalta.com\/en\/island-of-gozo\"><strong><span lang=\"TR\">Gozo<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"TR\">is extremely popular with both locals and tourists alike for its serenity and quiet beauty. Often referred to as<\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><strong><span lang=\"TR\">&ldquo;the land where time stood still&rdquo;<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"TR\">, Malta&rsquo;s sister Island is excellent walking country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><strong><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong>One of the best walks is along Dingli Cliffs. It&rsquo;s truly spectacular to watch the sun set over the sea from the highest area in Malta where the land falls away at a spectacular 220m height. These cliffs offer remarkable coastal views.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"TR\">The island of<\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmalta.com\/en\/island-of-comino\"><strong><span lang=\"TR\">Comino<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span><span><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"TR\">was once reportedly the hideout of pirates and smugglers and is only 2.5km by 1.5km in size, so it&rsquo;s ideal for a good day&rsquo;s hiking and the ultimate in solitude and views.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><strong><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong>For those who are up for a challenge, the Islands offer some testing scenery to tempt the avid rock climber.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\"><span lang=\"TR\">&nbsp;<\/span>Put on walking boots, hire a mountain bike and head out from the village squares on the narrow farmers&rsquo; tracks. You&rsquo;ll find yourself in a timeless landscape, quite alone even in peak season. There is plenty to discover, from ancient farmhouses and wayside chapels to spectacular seascapes.
