St. Agatha's Catacombs According to a strong local tradition, during the persecution of Christians decreed by the Roman Emperor Trajanus Decius (249-251 AD), St. Agatha fled from Sicily and took refuge in Malta. St. Paul's Catacombs St. Paul’s Catacombs is a typical complex of interconnected, underground Roman cemeteries that were in use up until the 4th century AD. They are located on the outskirts of the old Roman capital Mdina, since Roman law prohibited burials within the city. Ta' Bistra Catacombs Located half way between the ancient town of Melite and the once-important harbour of Salina, the Ta' Bistra catacombs are, so far, the largest set of tombs and catacombs accessible beyond the confines of the ancient city of the Island. Ta' Qadi Ancient Temple The tal-Qadi Temple is an ancient site, situated in Saint Paul's Bay, Malta. It was first excavated in 1927 by Sir Temi Zammit. Ta` Ħaġrat Temples Dating from 3600-3200 BC, the two Ta’ Ħaġrat temples are amongst the earliest temple buildings in Malta and are extremely well preserved. Tal-Mintna Catacombs Tal-Mintna Catacombs in Mqabba were discovered in 1860 by Dr. A Caruana and Captain Strickland. One of the main features of this burial ground is that of detached underground sets of burial chambers grouped collectively next to each other. Tarxien Temples The Tarxien Temples date from 3600-2500 BC and are the most complex of all temple sites in Malta, consisting of four megalithic structures. Tas-Silġ Ancient Temple Tas-Silġ is a multi-period sanctuary site located in the south-eastern part of the island of Malta, close to Marsaxlokk harbour. The site has a long history of antiquarian research and archaeological excavation. Xagħra Stone Circle The Xagħra Stone Circle is an underground funerary complex, situated in Xagħra on the Maltese island of Gozo. 12
