NATALIS NOTABILIS 2018

The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching and Rabat’s historical core is getting ready to be transformed into a Christmas wonderland during Natalis Notabilis 2018 – Malta’s Christmas Village.

Around 100 stalls will be set up in the narrow and intertwining streets of Mdina’s suburb, including artisans selling local products and crafts, a variety of Maltese and international Christmas delicacies, such as ‘Qagħaq tal-Għasel’ (Honey Rings), ‘Qastan tal-imbuljuta’ (hot chocolate with chestnuts) and ‘Kafe tal-Istanjata’ (Maltese traditional Coffee). These may be obtained from the Fransican Frairy’s own kitchen, while the Notarial Archives Resource Council shall be reproducing Christmas recipes which have long been forgotten.

At Palazzo Xara’s terrace, one may relax at the Christmas Cafetteria, overfacing ‘Natalini’, a revamped oudoor space dedicated just for Children whereby where Santa Claus will be hosting them at his own house, surrounded by various stalls, selling a variety of sweets and toys, and activities that will make their experience even more magical..

While at the Christmas Market, grab yourself the infamous Christmas Market treat, ranging from a warm cup of Gluhwein, to Northern European must-haves at the German Food Hut which will be serving Bratwurst, Gulasch, Chicken Schnitzel and Pretzels amongst others. One must not miss out on our very own mulled wine, which recipe will be introduced during this year’s event.

Natalis Notabilis 2018 is not just a Christmas Market. Historical buildings will host theatrical performances, including the highly sought after ‘Nativity Trail’ at the Franciscan Friary’s large secret garden and another theatrical performance that will roam around Palazzo Xara. The 500 year old Ta’ Giezu Church shall host the Malta Christmas Carol Festival and the Gospel Choir Concert: Christmas Special while the National Sanctuary Dedicated to Saint Joseph shall be hosting a newly restored copy of a 150-year-old Choir book, unique for its large size.

A Park and Ride Service shall be provided at Triq it-Tigrija and Triq l-Infetti (both accessible at Saqajja Hill) where vans shall be circulating and dropping off near the Roman Domus.
