Within the walls of Villa Bologna you will discover a world far removed from the bustle of Malta's tourist traffic. Visitors can enjoy a historic Mediterranean garden where plants and beautiful fountains provide a perfect setting for the villa.
Villa Bologna is also a much loved family home that has been lived in by successive generations of the family that built it.
The main villa was built in 1745 by Fabrizio Grech as a dowry for the wedding of his daughter Maria Teresa to Nicolas Perdicomati Bologna, second Count della Catena. The old orange groves and fountains also date from this period.
In the 1930s Lady Strickland created a new garden behind the villa where there is another spectacular fountain, a sunken pond and vine covered pergolas leading through the new orange groves where grapefruit, tangerines, oranges and lemons all flourish.
