MEDITERRANEAN CONFERENCE CENTRE

Triq il-Mediterran Valletta, Malta

Mediterranean Conference Centre

One of the most imposing buildings in Valletta is the former "Sacra Infermeria" of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, now popularly known as the Mediterranean Conference Centre, which is located adjacent to Fort St. Elmo and overlooking the Grand Harbour.

The following are some of the Meetings Halls at the Mediterrean Conference Centre:

Republic Hall
The imposing Republic Hall has been constructed in place of what was once the Main Courtyard of the Sacra Infermeria. At 728 square metres, it is Malta's largest auditorium and is tastefully roofed over. With a seating capacity of 1,400, this elegant theatre-style hall is the largest in the Mediterranean Conference Centre. It is ideal for large scale meetings or conferences and is equipped with theatre lighting and sound systems, audio/visual facilities, as well as simultaneous interpretation facilities for up to six languages. If required, all the 408 seats in the stalls area may be removed to either extend the stage or accommodate guests on round tables or standing up.
In this hall historical architecture and modern technology blend to perfection. The deep red theatre curtain and comfortable seating combined with the traditional honey-comb stone which is visible in the arches on the sides of the auditorium create a unique, warm and pleasing ambience. World famous orchestras, operas, ballets and theatrical performances have been produced on the magnificent stage of the Republic Hall.

Sacra Infermeria Hall
The Sacra Infermeria Hall is an extraordinary and magnificent space. It covers a total of 1,700 square metres and is 155 metres long. It can accommodate 100 exhibition stands of 9 square metres each. If more space is needed, another two halls can be used to provide a further 1,700 square metres of exhibition space between them.
Fairs and expositions of all sorts can be comfortably set up here. This dramatic space is also very versatile. It can be used as a banqueting hall accommodating 1,400 guests seated to dinner or 2,500 for a stand-up cocktail-style reception. This hall was once the Long Ward of the Sacra Infermeria. It is one of the longest halls in Europe and was recognised as an architectural feat in the 16th century when it was constructed.

La Valette Hall
The La Valette Hall is the main Banqueting Hall at the Centre. Formerly the Sacra Infermeria's Great Magazine Ward, it is an architectural gem with a combination of splendid vaulted ceilings over its sheer length, making it one of the most elegant banqueting halls on the Island. Covering 1,500 square metres, it seats 900 guests. Alternatively, the hall can accommodate up to 1,500 guests for a stand up occasion. The pleasure of dining in the La Valette Hall becomes a truly unique and unforgettable experience when the food and the atmosphere are combined to create a themed night: perhaps a medieval banquet complete with jugglers and waitresses in costume takes your fancy, or the ever popular Night of the Knights.

Michel' Angelo Grima Hall
Michel' Angelo Grima Hall comfortably accommodates 450 delegates in theatre-style seating or up to 250 delegates in classroom style. The interpretation booths can cater for up to six languages simultaneously. This fully luxuriously carpeted hall is furbished to high levels of comfort with excellent lighting and wood panelled walls.

Temi Zammit Hall
Constructed along similar architectural lines to the larger Republic Hall, the Temi Zammit is more moderate in its dimensions without losing any of the historical character. It is 20 metres by 9 metres and is graced by a high ceiling and magnificent stone. The artistic combination of the modern lighting, plush seating and ancient stone walls creates an unforgettable sense of space.

Ellul Mercer Hall
The Ellul Mercer Hall has been furbished as a raked theatre with fixed seating. The flat stalls area, which accommodates 60 delegates, may however, be removed. The maximum capacity of the hall is 230 delegates. High level interpretation facilities are also available in the Ellul Mercer Hall with booths that can accommodate up to five languages simultaneously.

Vassalli and David Bruce Halls
The pair of halls known as the Vassalli and David Bruce share many intrinsic features. Being of modest proportions, 16m x 11m and 12m x 9m respectively, they lend themselves to smaller gatherings of a more intense and informal nature, creating a more personal, intimate atmosphere. They are ideal for seminars, training sessions, meetings and smaller conferences. The Vassalli Hall is the larger of the two and accommodates up to 150 delegates in theatre-style seating or 60 in classroom style. The interpretation facilities allow for three languages. The David Bruce Hall seats 30 delegates at tables and up to 90 in theatre-style with interpretation facilities for three languages.

Cotoner Hall
With its high ceilings and wonderful 400-year-old stone walls the Cotoner Hall is the Mediterranean Conference Centre's second dedicated exhibition space. Exuding ambiance and atmosphere from every inch, the hall provides the perfect backdrop for a vast range of exhibits. Alternatively, it may also be used for small size banquets or receptions. The Cotoner Hall is moderately sized measuring 26.4 metres and 7.2 metres and set off by 15-metre-high walls. The hall is named after the 17th century Grandmaster Nicholas Cotoner, who was the founder of Malta's first School of Anatomy, within the Sacra Infermeria. Adjacent to the Cotoner Hall and running along side the vast building is a pleasant open-air courtyard. The blooms of the Hibiscus and Bougainvillaea plants provide vibrant colour and the high walls and citrus trees provide soothing shade on hot summer days. The Courtyard is the perfect location for al fresco receptions where light refreshments might be served. It is also an ideal spot for coffee breaks where delegates would enjoy being out in the open for informal conversation during seminars and conferences. Or it can simply be a relaxing meeting point before or after conferences.

La Cassiere and Girolamo Cassar Halls
The smallest and most intimate of all the halls at the Centre are La Cassiere and Girolamo Cassar. They are almost entirely dedicated to catering functions and are therefore suitable for executive dinners, perfect for incentive groups, as well as for all sorts of special occasions involving small groups. Each hall can take up to 60 guests in banquet style, and up to 100 for stand-up cocktail reception. The La Cassiere and the Girolamo Cassar Halls lie adjacent to one another. Their proximity means that they can easily be used concurrently for parallel meetings.
