Learn more about Kim's Journey!

Kim, an eight-year old female turtle was released on 11th June after nearly 11 months in rehab. She was rescued from Kalkara by a fisherman on 30th July 2020 (thanks also to Jane from Wildlife rescue). She had an ingested hook with line which was amazingly expelled after several weeks (without requiring surgery).  Céline Ferlat patiently took care  of her for months, as Kim also had developed an eye infection.

A tracker was attached to Kim which was sponsored by the Malta Tourism Authority and we will be sharing updates of her travels as she goes on her journey. The release marked the launch of the first ecological marine park in Ċirkewwa following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Nature Trust and the Malta Tourism Authority on Thursday. The agreement will pave the way for an ecologically sensitive park to preserve the biodiversity in the area and encourage more diving tourism. Working on the model set up by the World Wildlife Fund in marine protection areas in Miramare and Portofino, the project will seek to map out and conserve sites in Ċirkewwa, including the Rożi and P29 wrecks, and introduce underwater CCTV to clamp down on illegalities, like harpoon fishing with air tank.
