The Malta Tourism Authority in conjunction with ITB Berlin, will be holding an LGBT Tourism Summit on the 23rd November 2018 at the Palace Hotel. This conference will provide a great opportunity for all stakeholders to delve in this lucrative niche market.

LGBT travel involves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. There are an estimated 23 million openly (“out”) LGBT people in Europe, making LGBT travellers a considerable potential source market. Now that the LGBT community is becoming increasingly visible and recognised around the world, so is the value of the LGBT travel market. In fact, LGBT travel is one of the fastest-growing markets in the industry. Europe is a main source market, with especially good opportunities in Germany, France and the United Kingdom. Smaller countries in northern and western Europe are also promising.

In May 2018, Malta has once again ranked first place in the latest ILGA-Europe Rainbow map and index for 2018, which reviews the human rights situation of LGBTIQ people in 49 countries around Europe. With an overall rating of 91%, for the third consecutive year, Malta remains the leading country in LGBTIQ rights and has widened the gap with the rest of the European countries.

LGBT travellers generally have high spending power and travel relatively often. Beach and cultural holidays are popular, while LGBT family travel is on the rise. To tap into this market, authentic LGBT-friendliness is key.

The conference will be addressed by number of international speakers presenting findings of new studies, best practices, the latest trends in LGBT online marketing and the economic potential of LGBT tourism. To register for the workshop and for more details about the programme, click here.
