A máltai szigetek erős domborzati formái a víz alatt is folytatódnak, így az érdeklődők a Mediterrán vidékek legbizarrabb víz alatti tájaira látogathatnak el, rengeteg barlanggal, lyukkal és hasadékkal. Nem szokatlanok a nagy sportcsarnoknyi méretű barlangok sem, és Málta körül több hajó és repülőgép roncs is található, melyek víz alatti élőlények tömegeinek váltak az otthonává.
