Walking

A growing niche in Maltese sports tourism is that of rambling and walking.

Gozo is a well renowned walking destination due to its green landscape. The island has many idyllic routes, where ramblers can explore rustic villages, fascinating archaeological sites and beautiful beaches. The island offers a number of diverse routes, from demanding cliff-top hikes and countryside trails to leisurely strolls around charming villages.

Through the ‘Malta Goes Rural' product development project, new walking routes have been identified by the MTA through the European Agricultural Fund for the Rural Development (EAFRD). These routes aim to generate interest in rural areas and quaint villages which are not frequented often by the traditional tourist. The walking routes in Malta are located away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist zones, and these are: Tas-Silg Walk, Fawwara Walk, Girgenti Walk, Bahrija Walk, Maqluba Walk, The Windmills Walk, Marfa Walk, Hal Millieri Walk and Mdina Walk.

A visit between October and May is ideal for hiking and walking.
