A stimulating three (3) day course organised by the AquaBioTech Group in Malta, including lectures on marine biology, the underwater life and the formation of the Mediterranean Sea led by Prof. Alan Deidun. There will also be SCUBA diving and snorkelling sessions with PADI certified instructors and marine biologists.

Course Schedule

Day 1 - 1st & 2nd Lecture (Duration: 4.5 Hours)

  • 09:30 - 11:30 – The coastal environment, habitats, vertical and horizontal zonation, species adaptations
  • 12:00 - 14:00 – Overview of the major marine habitats and species within the Mediterranean

Day 2 - 3rd & 4th Lecture (Duration: 4.5 Hours)

  • 09:30 - 11:30 – Plankton and major physical phenomena in the sea
  • 12:00 - 14:00 – Introduction to impact ecology – overview of human impacts on the marine environment

Day 3 - Field Activity

  • Participants can choose one of the following activities: 1) Snorkeling session, 2) Discover SCUBA diving (includes two (2) dives - PADI certified course) or 3) Open-water SCUBA dive using underwater communication equipment.
