Maltese playwright Tyrone Grima has written and directed Zayden, to be performed at The Splendid in Valletta from 25 to 28 July.

Written in Maltese, Zayden is about homelessness in Malta. As a problem that is not overtly evident on Maltese streets, Zayden challenges the misconception that homelessness is not an issue in the country. The show features a young man who was homeless for several years.

The title role is interpreted by Jacob Piccinino (Us/them), who leads the audience on a journey through his life as Zayden. In Zayden, we witness the adversity of homelessness through tales of real events. Never one to focus on doom and gloom though, Zayden also humorously recounts escaping from the police, stealing fruit from San Anton Gardens and a mock village procession.

The play is produced in collaboration with the Salesians of Don Bosco, who support and help young homeless men to build a better future. The show’s proceeds will be donated to the Salesians to support their work.

ZAYDEN will be staged at The Splendid, Strait Street, Valletta, opening at 8pm on 25 July. The show’s run continues on 26, 27, 28 July with two performances per night at 7.30pm and 9pm. Booking is now open, with tickets available for €15.90 at www.showshappening.com.
