Throughout Europe, the 21st of March will be celebrated as the European Early Music Day. Barocco Foundation will be celebrating this special day on the 19th of March 2019 as Ramona Zammit Formosa will perform a repertoire of early piano works at St. Augustine Monastery in Old Bakery Street Valletta at noon.

This special date is celebrated throughout Europe through concerts and events taking place simultaneously across Europe and broadcast online to highlight an important celebration and to promote this historical musical heritage.  Early Music spans more than a millennium of music from the Middle-Ages to the end of the 18th century.

Ramona Zammit Formosa will perform a number of highly interesting works by different European composers.  The performance will feature the works of the 16th century English composer and organist Martin Peerson, namely “The Fall of the Leafe” and “The Primrose” which will be followed by Bach’s “Concerto no 3 in d minor” and “Sinfonia”. Moreover, the programme includes the work of the Italian 18th Century Domenico Cimarosa – “Sonata in G” and Reggio’s works which will be introduced by Anthony Hart, a musicologist who has researched on this composer’s works. The concert ends with the French 18th century composer Jean-Philippe Rameau’s La Poule” and “La Dauphine”

Visitors are encouraged to enjoy a free visit to the interesting chambers of the monastery after the concert. Proceeds from the event will go to the restoration project of the Augustinian Monastery.

Tickets, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details phone 7968 0952 or email: baroccomalta@gmail.com.
